Home > News > Lenex Selected to Fabricate Steel for St. Elizabeth East Hospital Project Lenex Selected to Fabricate Steel for St. Elizabeth East Hospital Project Indianapolis, IN - (Summer 2007): Indianapolis based, Lenex Steel Company, will fabricate both structural and miscellaneous steel for the construction of the new St. Elizabeth East acute-care facility in Lafayette. The 410,000 square foot state-of-the-art hospital broke ground on June 12 and will utilize nearly 3000 tons of fabricated steel in the construction process. Working together for the first time, general contractor Tonn and Blank Construction, selected Lenex based on their manufacturing capacity and reputation for on-time work with large-scale projects. "We are pleased to be a part of this important project for the Lafayette and Tippecanoe County area," notes Lenex President, Mike Berghoff. "The hospital is an integral part of the fabric of the community, and this new facility will deliver the most advanced healthcare technologies in a patient-friendly setting. It's exciting to know that Lenex Steel will form the foundation of the facility." Scheduled for completion in 2009, St. Elizabeth East will house 150 private rooms in a three-story structure. It will feature: 8 operating room suites 27 emergency department bays 14 neo-natal intensive care suites in a Level III unit Private rooms Chapel Women's Center St. Elizabeth East is a member of the Sisters of St. Francis Health Services, Inc. system, which operates 13 hospital campuses in Indiana and Illinois. The Sisters of St. Francis founded St. Elizabeth's in Lafayette in 1875. Lenex is a steel fabricator and full service design/build firm that works throughout the region. Its 150,000 square foot fabrication facility is located in Terre Haute. Lenex also operates a miscellaneous steel fabrication facility in Indianapolis and is headquartered on the north side of Indianapolis.
