Indianapolis, IN (August 28, 2008): Lenex Steel was named one of the first Indiana Companies to Watch by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation’s (IEDC) Small Business Development Network. Lenex was one of 50 companies chosen from a field of 420 nominations and 131 finalists. The award recognizes the state’s top privately held businesses that employ up to 150 employees and have revenues or working capital between $750,000 and $100 million.
In its inaugural year in Indiana, the Indiana Companies to Watch awards program is an initiative developed by the Michigan-based, Edward Lowe Foundation. The selection criteria included market performance, innovative products, unique processes and/or philanthropic involvement in the community. Recognized companies were chosen for their definitive impact on Indiana’s economy.
“There is no better story to tell than that of a homegrown Hoosier company that continues to grow and create new jobs,” remarked Governor Mitch Daniels in the IEDC news release. According to a recent Indiana Chamber of Commerce Foundation study, nearly 3,800 mid-sized companies with sales between $5 million and $100 million operate in Indiana. Lenex currently employs 85 people in three locations within the state.
Lenex Steel was founded in 2003 to provide fabricated steel for the commercial construction industry. The company maintains its headquarters in Indianapolis. It also operates fabrication facilities in Terre Haute and Indianapolis. Its current project portfolio includes the Indianapolis Convention Center Expansion Project, the Carmel City Center, Riley Children’s Hospital Simon Family Tower, Union Hospital in Terre Haute, and the new Rockford, Illinois Courthouse Project.
