Construction On Music City Center Right On Schedule

Nashville News Channel 5 - Nashville, TN (June 16, 2011): Construction on the Music City Center is right on schedule. The more than $600-million convention center is starting to take shape. Crews are busy installing the steel for this project, eventually using over 11,000 tons of steel for this project. The crews are currently installing the massive steel trusses that will form the roof for the grand ballroom here at the Music City Center.

This is great progress for 16 months of construction, even if it just looks like steel girders at this point. "Yet on the inside of the building it is starting to look like an actual building. Block masons are building stairwells and walls. You can walk up stairs all the way to the fifth floor and our mechanical, electrical and plumbing team sprinkler and duct work are in place," said Holly McCall. The project is still on target for a spring 2013 grand opening, although a specific date is not known at this time. The mayor's office said 43 conventions are already booked for the facility.
